What began in 1975 as a small bus manufacturer has now transformed into a world leading transit bus brand in North America. Orion, a name synonymous with quality and value, provides transportation solutions to over 230 cities across the United States and Canada.

Innovation has always been part of Orion’s everyday business. One of the milestones of public transportation was the introduction of the low floor Orion II bus in 1983. This bold concept was the forerunner of today’s low floor models and was clearly on the leading edge of transit innovation. Further innovative concepts have followed, winning the brand numerous accolades for exceptional design. In 1989 the Orion V heavy duty, high floor bus was introduced. This successful transit bus remained in Orion’s product portfolio until 2008 but can still be found in cities across North America. Today, the Orion VII is available in a variety of lengths and configurations including diesel-electric hybrid, CNG and diesel. Orion continues the tradition of exceeding industry expectations by delivering reliable and dependable transit buses to cities throughout North America – an Orion hallmark.

The development of alternative engine concepts is one of Orion’s core competencies. Included in this is CNG-fuel buses and the most notable diesel-electric hybrid buses. As an early pioneer, the brand began development of hybrid electric low floor buses in the early 1990’s. Today, Orion holds the record as the world's leader of diesel-electric hybrid buses. This commitment and endless pursuit has proven successful for Orion as more and more cities trust their hybrid programs only to the Orion brand.

Orion continues to offer its customers leading, state-of-the-art buses. Being part of the world's largest bus manufacturer - Daimler - Orion can continue this while taking advantage of the synergies in research and development of Daimler as a global player.
