Turandot Opera in Beijing 2008: Stage Front
Turandot was Zhang Yimou's first venture into the world of opera. His production of the work at the Teatro Comunale in Florence in 1997 formed the basis for the unique Turandot in Beijing, though sets, costumes and staging were adapted for the outdoor performances at the Forbidden City. The Turandot Opera at the Bird’s Nest presented by Mercedes-Benz is Zhang Yimou’s third production of this unique piece of art.

Mercedes-Benz China supported the high-profile monumental performance and iconic artistic venture, which highly contributes to enriching Beijing’s cultural offerings. Considered the cultural event of the year in China, Zhang Yimou’s Turandot was a clear focal point on a national scale in the third quarter of 2009. As the title sponsor hereby, Mercedes-Benz China also provided a 20-vehicle S-Class fleet, including the brand new S 400 HYBRID, to the production to be used during the time of the performance.

The Turandot partnership offered a unique opportunity to highlight the China launch of the new S-Class of 2009 in a context fully underlining the Mercedes-Benz brand values.
