15. United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 15)
Daimler AG has been selected to support the 15th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 15) with a fleet of highly efficient and environment-friendly cars, vans and buses.
This conference has been held from December 7 to 18, 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Group provided a shuttle service with a total of 43 vehicles with a wide variety of drive systems, from the internal combustion engine and the hybrid up to the fuel cell.
In addition to the Mercedes-Benz S 400 HYBRID – the world's first series hybrid with lithium-ion technology – and the clean Mercedes-Benz E-Class BlueTEC diesels, further vehicles to be seen on the roads of Copenhagen were Citaro buses and Mercedes-Benz B-Class cars with fuel cell drive, along with Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans powered by natural gas.
Mercedes-Benz Denmark reinforced the visibility of this commitment with communication activities on location. 15,000 politicians, business and NGO representatives, and journalists from 200 countries were expected in Copenhagen in December. The aim of the Climate Conference was to bring about a globally binding agreement on climate change for the period after 2012; this will then replace the Kyoto Protocol.
