SPLITVIEW technology – the latest multimedia technology
Mercedes-Benz is the first premium manufacturer to equip its luxury class vehicles with a screen on which driver and front passenger are able to see two different contents at the same time. While the driver studies the navigation notes and data, the front passenger can enjoy a film on the same display. This is made possible by the new SPLITVIEW technology, which Mercedes-Benz has introduced for the first time in the S-Class.

Innovative SPLITVIEW technology: Mercedes-Benz S-Class: two different programmes on the same monitor at the same time.

The new SPLITVIEW-technology, developed jointly by Mercedes-Benz and Bosch, is integrated in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class COMAND control and display system in the centre console. A generously-dimensioned 8-inch monitor with a back-lit active matrix colour display (TFT-LCD) shows two different images simultaneously by placing pixels adjacent to each other.

The driver still has access to all the information from the COMAND control and display system, while the front passenger uses the remote control to choose his own personal entertainment programme with video DVDs, music videos or television programmes.

To avoid distracting the driver with the entertainment programme, the front passenger has the option to enjoy his programme via headphones. And of course the front passenger is not barred from using the telephone or operating the navigation system, because he can call up, and display on the monitor all the information of the COMAND control and display system.
Mercedes-Benz introduced the new SPLITVIEW technology in the S-Class for the first time in summer 2009.
