Bernhard Walter, born in 1942, has held various senior positions in different divisions of Dresdner Bank, both throughout its branch network and at its head office in Frankfurt, since completing his bank traineeship and studying at the Württemberg Academy of Business and Administration.

Bernhard Walter has been on the Dresdner Bank Board of Management since 1987. In addition to growing the bank's corporate client business and expanding its Business Line Global Finance area within the investment banking division, he has been heavily involved in opening up new markets in central and eastern Europe and expanding the bank's branch network in the new federal states. During his entire period as board member he deputized for the CFO. Between 1998 and 2000 Bernhard Walter was the spokesman for the Board of Management of Dresdner Bank.

Dr. h. c. Walter is currently a member of the Supervisory Boards of: BilfingerBerger SE (Chairman), Deutsche Telekom AG, Henkel AG & Co. KGaA.
