Mercedes-Benz Maintains Sales Momentum in Mainland China with Year-to-Date Growth of 38% during the First Three Quarters of 2011
  • Mercedes-Benz witnessed a remarkable growth of 38% in the first three quarters of 2011 with deliveries of over 139,400 units in Mainland China.
  • The flagship S-Class once again saw impressive performance, delivering 2,325 units in September alone, contributing to total sales of almost 23,150 units in the first nine months, a growth of 41%. 
  • The Long-wheel-base E-Class posted September sales of 2,805 units, while the new generation C-Class maintained positive sales momentum with deliveries of nearly 2,680 units in September.
  • Sales of the SUV family remained notable; the GLK witnessed solid sales of almost 17,970 units, a year-on-year increase of 115%, while the M-Class grew 90% in the first nine months, with deliveries of nearly 10,550 units.
Mercedes-Benz posted record sales in China for yet another month, with sales in September continuing the positive momentum seen throughout the year. With record September sales of nearly 15,815 passenger vehicles (+13%), the first three quarters of 2011 witnessed an impressive year-to-date delivery of over 139,400 units of Mercedes-Benz, smart, AMG and Maybach in Mainland China.
“The impressive 38% growth over the first three quarters of 2011 underscores our continued momentum here in China,” stated Klaus Maier, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz (China) Ltd. “With the enriched product portfolio including the upcoming launch of the fascinating new CLS this month, the ongoing expansion of our dealer network, and a strong focus on After Sales service, we're well prepared to head into the final quarter to complete another record year in China.”
Mercedes-Benz’s flagship luxury sedan, the S-Class, continued its appeal as a top-seller in China, the largest market for the model, with a year-on-year increase of 41%. The September total of 2,325 units contributed to this year’s nine-month total of nearly 23,150 units.
The Long-wheel-base E-Class, tailor-made for the China market, posted September sales of 2,805 units. The locally produced E-Class is set to attract more customers with the launch of the E 300 L Elegance as a further enhancement to its lineup.
Aided by a fully harmonized sales organization, the recently-launched new generation C-Class witnessed immediate popularity with customers in China, with September sales of almost 2,680 units, adding to year-to-date sales of close to 17,785 units.
Sales of the SUV family showed that Mercedes-Benz is benefitting from a diversified portfolio, appealing to a broader audience in China. With more than a 100% year-on-year increase, over 39,760 units were delivered in the first three quarters. The GLK performed exceptionally well, boosting total year-to-date sales with deliveries of about 17,970 units, a 115% growth. The M-Class made a significant contribution with deliveries of nearly 10,550 units in the first nine months of the year. The R-Class also boosted September’s overall SUV sales of over 1,100 units, up 215% compared to the same month last year.
