Stuttgart, September 9, 2009
For the fifth consecutive time, Daimler is among the top automotive companies in the global ranking of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, one of the most prestigious sustainability indices worldwide. Daimler's inclusion in the DJSI is based on the "best-in-class analysis" of the Swiss company Sustainable Asset Management (SAM). BMW, Fiat, Renault, Volkswagen and Toyota Motor are also included in the index.
Inclusion in the DJSI means that the sustainability commitment of companies in the areas of economy, ecology and social welfare is evaluated and acknowledged on the basis of a systematic assessment method using various criteria.
Daimler's inclusion in the DJSI shows that Daimler is on the right path with its sustainability initiatives. In line with this, the company will continue to work hard to implement its vision of sustainability in order to reflect its leading position in other important rankings.
Daimler has publicly documented its activities and targets for sustainable operations since 2005 in its annual "Facts on Sustainability" report and on the website www.daimler.com/Sustainability, which was recently revamped. These reports are in conformity with the guidelines of the internationally respected "Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)" and thus provide significantly greater transparency of sustainability reporting.
